The first character we meet is Hero Boy. He is the main protagonist of the story, and he is the one who takes the journey on the Polar Express. At the start of the movie, it shows him losing his faith in the magic of Christmas, and we get to follow his story of how he finds it again. His curiosity, bravery and enthusiasm make him a likeable character.
Up next is the Conductor. He is a kind and wise figure who serves as a guide to the passengers on the Polar Express. He wears a tall hat and a golden watch, and he has a special whistle that he uses to signal the train’s departure. His caring and gentle demeanour make him a beloved figure in the film.
On his journey, Hero Boy meets a girl known simply as Hero Girl. She is a brave and determined girl who stands up for what she believes in. She has a strong belief in the power of Christmas, and she encourages the other passengers to do the same. Throughout the movie, her character becomes stronger and stronger as she proves herself to be a natural leader. An interesting note about her is that she wasn’t a character in the original book. Her character in the movie was inspired by an illustration of a young girl sitting next to Hero Boy on their way back from the North Pole.
While trying to return Hero Girl’s lost ticket, our hero meets a hobo on top of the train. He is a mysterious figure who lives on the train and helps the boy find his way to the North Pole. He wears a tattered suit and speaks in riddles, which adds to his enigmatic nature. He is very knowledgeable about the train and he helps our hero out when he is in need. Throughout the movie, only Hero Boy interacts with the hobo.
Finally, we meet Santa Claus. He is the jolly old man who brings presents to children on Christmas Eve. He is a symbol of the spirit of Christmas, and he is an important figure in the story. He is the one who gives Hero Boy the first bell from the reindeer’s harness, which proves that the boy truly believes in the magic of Christmas.
Other amazing characters that make this feel-good family movie so memorable include Know-it-all, a young boy who wants everyone to know just how smart he is, and Billy, a shy, lonely young boy who has trouble making friends.
