On his journey to the North Pole, the hero in The Polar Express meets a young girl of around 10-13 years old. She wears pink pyjamas and has braided pigtails. Throughout the movie, she helps Hero Boy and the other children on the Polar Express reach the North Pole and restore their faith in the magic of Christmas. She quickly becomes one of the main characters and is a fan favourite; her kindness and bravery setting an example for us all.
We get our first taste of her bravery early on in the movie. After Hero Boy pulls the train’s emergency brake to let Billy, the lonely boy, onto the train, he gets into serious trouble with the conductor. The furious conductor berates Hero Boy for messing around, and at this point, Hero Girl stands up to defend him. She tells him that he was simply trying to help another kid get onto the train. The conductor sees Billy and immediately calms down, reminding Hero Boy of the train's strict schedule. Hero Girl also has a thoughtful and caring side to her. When the waiters come in to serve hot chocolate to all the children, it’s Hero Girl who takes an extra cup to give to Billy.
During the rest of the film, she is shown to be smart and capable. At one point, she’s in charge of driving the train; and it’s her belief in the spirit of Christmas that leads Hero Boy and Billy to safety when they get lost in the tunnels.
Hero Girl is an inspiring role model for young kids everywhere. She is a brave and determined female character who never gives up, setting an example for us all.
