Is The Polar Express A Dream?

(Spoiler alert!)

The Polar Express is a 2004 animated fantasy film that tells the story of a young boy who takes an incredible train ride to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. While it can be easy to believe that it had all been our Hero’s dream, the bell he opens at the end of the film proves that his adventures were real and that he really did meet Santa!

The main theme of the movie is that of believing in the impossible, which is often seen as a metaphor for believing in the magic of Christmas. This idea is reinforced by the conductor revealing that all passengers from the Polar Express are given a single silver sleigh bell from Santa dedicated to those who still believe. With this bell ringing at the end of the film, the characters, and the audience, all understand that believing in something with all your heart will make it come true, regardless of whether it is a dream or not.
