Our 2013 season of steam events set off in fantastic style with our Winter Steam Gala this past weekend.
The weekend saw hundreds of you brave the freezing temperatures to come and experience the joy of steam travel through the beautiful Churnet Valley. Our intensive passenger service saw trains running all the way from Froghall through Leekbrook Junction up to Cauldon Lowe. We think you’ll agree the magnificent site and sound of a steam train working its way up the steep climb to Cauldon Lowe is one that’s hard to beat.
Many of you were excited to see our special guest star – the Southern Railways U Class Locomotive No. 31806. Kindly loaned to us for the Gala by Mid Hants Railway, and sharing the passenger service duties with our USATC S160 6046, she didn’t fail to impress.
So it’s a big thank you to all our visitors for coming to the gala and all the volunteers who helped make it such a success. Let’s hope the rest of the season is as much fun as the opening weekend!
Many thanks to Chris Burgess of C Burgess Photography for use of his images.
