Volunteers Wedding Funds Go Down The Drain

10/01/2013 (11 years ago)   General News

When CVR volunteers Sheila Bingham and Peter Martin decided to tie the knot after 27 years of being together, the railway was an obvious choice for their wedding. So after months of detailed planning with commercial manager / wedding planner, Margaret Mountford, they were finally married at Kingsley & Froghall Station on Saturday 7th July 2012.

On retiring from running their Oatcake shop in January 2011 after 20 years they decided to follow up their love of railways which brought them to the CVR. Sheila was asked if she would give us the benefit of her retail experience and help out with the Souvenir Shop and Peter expressed an interest in getting hands on work and was recruited into the Civil Engineering Department.

Shelia is now the Deputy Souvenir Shop Manager at Froghall and Peter is an active member of both the Civil’s Department and Commercial Department’s Events Team.

Instead of wedding gifts Sheila and Peter asked for donations to three of their favourite charities, Douglas Macmillan, Iris’s Cats and of course the CVR. So on the 4th October they proudly presented a cheque for £1000 to Margaret asking that the money be put to a specific project.

Subsequently it was decided that following the heavy rain and massive flood at the Peppa Pig event, which severely tested Peppa and George’s wellies! That the money be used to provide much needed drainage in the car park at Kingsley & Froghall Station. The work was carried out promptly by contractors and finished in time for the Ghost Train.

Shelia & Peter can be seen at the Wedding in the photograph below and also presenting their £1000 Wedding Cheque to Margaret Mountford.
