Churnet Valley Railway’s Rail Ale Trail Festival
Our Rail Ale Trail is set to depart from Froghall Station, from where it’ll make a 5.5-mile journey through Consall, Cheddleton, and Leek Brook. While the main event is hosted in Consall, the fun starts before you even board, with our Signals Tearoom serving up refreshments, a tasty lunch, and traditional sweets and confectionary.
On board, you’ll be treated to a selection of 30 different ales from local breweries in Stoke, Stone, Stafford, Burslem, and more, all while taking in the picturesque views of the Churnet Valley landscape and the festival atmosphere. Once we get to Cheddleton Station, you’ll have the chance to disembark and stretch your legs in this beautifully preserved English village before grabbing the next round of beers and getting back on board for the next leg of the journey.
Our next stop is Consall, a tiny village only accessible by train. Here, the locals of this secret-garden-paradise-village are treating us to a day of live music, food stalls, dance floors, and a festive vibe second to none. If you’re still managing to stay on your own two feet, check out the local Black Lion Pub for a sight you’d think only exists in fairy tales. Take your time to explore in any direction and experience the beauty of the Staffordshire Moorlands. And don’t you dare worry about how you’ll make your way back! On this once-a-year weekend, Consall has an abundance of trains coming and going as they welcome festival goers from all over the country. Whenever you’re ready, just jump on the next train back to reality.
Whether you’re in it for the beers, want to sample some good old English countryside hospitality and food, are a history buff looking to explore secluded villages, or simply need a festive day out with some mates or the family – the Churnet Valley Rail Ale Trail is ready to deliver.
