The Churnet Valley Railway held a staff briefing day at the historic Middleport Pottery in Burslem, Stoke on Trent. The first such event since Covid, the railway’s management decided it would be appropriate to have the day in a historic building in Stoke on Trent. Stoke was very much the world centre of pottery and it seemed fitting to discuss railway heritage in a building dating back to 1888.
The team at Middleport put 3 rooms at our disposal and also provided volunteer guides to show our team a selection of the main artefacts located across the site, including a demonstration of the one and only Boulton steam engine.
Railway staff were briefed on the company’s performance in 2022 and our future plans for 2023 including the imminent opening of the extension to Leek. The opportunity was taken to update all staff on our RM3 journey along with updates on our competence management system, our asset management plan and our proposals and past actions to reduce our energy costs.
