The Churnet Valley Railway was delighted to see the arrival of two Mk1 coaches on the railway last Friday, courtesy of our supporting charity “North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) Ltd”.
The NSRC have purchased TSO E3809 and SO 4366 as part of the long term planning for Leek, and the eventual need for two operating sets along the Churnet Valley. 3809 is planned to enter our Carriage & Wagon works in the Spring for its restoration to begin in earnest. 4366 meanwhile will wait its turn for overhaul, when it will become a second dining vehicle to compliment our current vehicle Diana – which itself is receiving an interior upgrade for the 2020 season.
We are grateful to receive the support of the NSRC with these acquisitions, and look forward to continuing this long working relationship between the two companies. The NSRC itself has launched an appeal to cover the cost of purchase and transport for these vehicles, their subsequent restorations and developing a reserve for future acquisitions. If you are willing to donate to this appeal – even as little as £5 – all is appreciated
