The Churnet Valley Railway is pleased to announce the latest additions to our diesel fleet, in the shape of English Electric Class 08 shunting locomotive 08633 and English Electric Class 20 D8057.
08633 (originally numbered D3800) will be based with us for a minimum of 5 years. Whilst it was in service as recently as last Monday, there are some outstanding repairs needed that will be completed before the locomotive enters service on the CVR. Its arrival at Cheddleton sees the locomotive extend its stay in Staffordshire, having first entered traffic in 1959 at Stoke Shed, and following a tour of numerous depots, it has arrived from the former Axiam Marcroft Wagon Works in Stoke. Also joining the CVR diesel fleet is D8057 (or 20057). Having been advertised for sale, the locomotive arrives complete from the Midland Railway Centre but requiring an engine overhaul and cab rebuild. This is another private purchase, and the loco will join the CVR operational fleet once the repairs have been completed making Cheddleton MPD her home base. Finally the CVR is also now able to confirm that class 04 D2334 has been made available for sale. The locomotive is complete, but has been out of traffic since 2012 following a gearbox failure. However the gearbox has been overhauled, and is just awaiting fitment. For further details please send an e-mail to <enquiries @ churnetvalleyrailway.co.uk>.
