Carriage And Wagon Manager Job Vacancy

The Churnet Valley Railway is the second largest tourist attraction in the Staffordshire Moorlands. We operate a variety of Heritage Railway services and attract in the region of 70,000 passengers per annum.

We pride ourselves on the experience we provide to our customers through our scenic locations, beautiful stations and variety of period coaches and locomotives. This experience is provided via a combination of paid and voluntary staff who work together in a seamless manner.

We currently have the following vacancy:

Title: Carriage & Wagon Manager

Salary: Dependent upon skills and experience £27,000-£30,000

Hours: 42.5 hours per week (27 days holiday with restrictions through Peak Summer season)

Location: Based primarily at our Cheddleton Engineering facility but will also include working on locations at the Railway as required.

The role:

The key responsibilities of the Carriage & Wagon Manager are:
  • Head up restoration projects working with the management to an agreed timescale.
  • Lead volunteer and paid staff alike on goals.
  • Weekly review of carriage repairs, log faults and action repairs in a timely manner.
  • Work with the office admin to maintain carriage records.
  • Work to a high standard with all projects.
  • Proactive approach towards spare component management.
  • Manage contractors on Carriage and Wagon related jobs.
  • Gain an in-depth knowledge of the vehicles operated on the railway (Training Provided).
Required Expertise/Knowledge/Skills:
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance.
  • Practical skills, fitting, welding, and assembly.
  • The ability to work with a high level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to work with volunteer staff and seamlessly integrate between the paid and unpaid roles.
  • Computer Literate or willing to learn.
  • The ability to plan and manage a busy and varied workload to meet our requirements.
  • The ability to work to timescales.
