Braithwaite Tank

22/07/2014 (10 years ago)   General News

North Staffordshire Railway Company have purchased a Braithwaite galvanised steel water tank from the new owners of Thomas Bolton's Froghall works, Panel Co. The tank will shortly be moved to Cheddleton where it will be used to store in excess of 6000 gallons of water to supply the former Hanley Station Water Column when it is erected at the South end of the Up platform ( Platform 1 ) at Cheddleton Station. The tank will also be used to supply water to the shed yard for watering the engines prior to running operations. This purchase is partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund through the Churnet Valley Living Landsacpes Partnership (CVLLP) and is the second phase of the Railway Heritage Project, the first phase being Leek Brook Station and signalbox. Moorlands Partnership are also contributing to this project which will also see Platform 1 extended by approximately 150 feet.
