The level crossing at Apesford was unexpectedly shut to road traffic on the 4th February. During a routine line patrol we identified what appeared to be a crack in a running rail. This required further investigation but to do this we needed to dig up the crossing.
An emergency road closure was required for this work to be undertaken.
Over the 5 days of closure the opportunity presented itself to completely renew the crossing. We are grateful for the ad hoc services of Premier Rail who came to our rescue overnight.
The crossing is now fully functioning and will give long service life, with ease of future maintenance as well as a better surface for users of the crossing.
