The half term is a great opportunity to spend quality time with your kids, making memories that they will treasure forever. We also understand, however, that activities with the kids can be pricey, and that’s why we offer our half term special! Here at Churnet Valley Railway, we offer shorter, more affordable trips on our steam train from Froghall to Leek Brook and back again. Let’s take a closer look at this fun day out:
Kids Days Out in Staffordshire - 29/30/31 May 28/29/30 August 2023
Climbing on board our steam trains allows your children to take a step back in time to the 1950s and 60s in our traditional carriages, while escaping the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Explore the wonders of the Churnet Valley countryside, stopping off at our stations along the way. In Froghall tearoom you will be able to enjoy freshly brewed coffee, tea, cakes, or homemade lunches – treats not to be missed! The tearoom proudly welcomes all guests and is both wheelchair accessible and child-friendly.
Froghall Station
Our journey departs from Froghall Station at various times throughout the day. Before leaving, don’t forget to grab some goodies or a refreshing drink at our tearoom, or grab a souvenir from our shop.
The station building is a replica of the old North Staffordshire Railway station and is located within the stunning Staffordshire Moorlands, close to the peaceful Froghall Wharf, and should be the start of your unique train adventure.
It has limited disabled parking, a drop-off zone, and a car park and also includes both toilets and baby changing facilities.
Consall Station
Consall station is a great place to stop to experience the English countryside, with the area only being accessible by rail, making it even more special and secluded. There are many country walks in the region, including one that connects Consall to Cheddleton via the Cauldon Canal and River Churnet. There truly is nothing better during half term than setting up for a picnic, and then taking a stroll through our beautiful countryside.
Cheddleton Station
Hop off at Cheddleton Station, the only grade 2 listed station along the Churnet Valley Railway.
The station itself is located at the banks of the River Churnet and dates back to the Victorian times. This stop also contains toilets and baby changing facilities.
Wander along the country paths beside the canal to stumble across and Cheddleton Flint Mill for some more exploring.
Leekbrook Station
Our half term journey ends at Leek Brook Station, where you will find a small stop in the middle of the countryside. This station is not currently open to the public.
Additional Information
All our services are powered by steam locomotives, unless stated otherwise. On the occasions we are unable to provide a steam locomotive due to circumstances outside of our control we will operate one of our heritage diesel locomotives.
